Sierra Drummond is a third-year communications student at Mount Royal University, majoring in public relations and minoring in business. Sierra has gained communication experience in broad industries from agency to real estate to fitness. She has an extensive background in social media management, customer relations and industry research. She loves creating, writing and exploring.

Kelvin Fagbenro – Issue Backgrounder Section Editor and Social Media Manager

Kelvin is a third-year public relations student at Mount Royal University, who has gained valuable experience throughout the course of his studies, which range from social media coordination to event planning. Brad Bergevin – Research Paper Section Editor and Web Content Developer

Brad is a third-year student at Mount Royal University, pursuing a Bachelor of Communication with a major in public relations and a minor in finance. Brad began studying at Mount Royal University in the fall of 2018, choosing the public relations program based on his passion for writing and business. Brad chose his minor in finance due to his interest in stock trading and his desire to strengthen his business acumen. Brad is passionate about building mutually beneficial relationships with publics through brand storytelling and hopes to work in the field of corporate communications or investor relations.

Leah Pottinger – Risk Communication Essay Section Editor and Volunteer Coordinator

Leah Pottinger is in the public relations degree program at Mount Royal University. She chose public relations because it satisfies her natural curiosity and her passion for building meaningful relationships. Currently, she works as a freelance writer in Calgary. Leah is constantly on the lookout for her next adventure – whether it be traveling, hiking, snowboarding or playing hockey. When she’s not hitting the rink or summitting a peak, she can be found curled up in a corner with her favorite book or podcast.

Dr. Peter Ryan – Publisher

The Western Communication Report supervisor and publisher is Dr. Peter Ryan, APR, a professor in the Public Relations program at Mount Royal University.

Any legal or policy concerns related to subject matter published in this online magazine can be reported directly to him. Peter has been an assistant professor with the Department of Public Relations at Mount Royal University since July 2016. Peter completed a Rogers PhD Fellowship in the joint Ryerson/York Universities’ Communication and Culture Programme. While completing his PhD, he taught for the Department of Politics and Public Administration at Ryerson for five years until 2010. He then moved to MacEwan University in Edmonton to work as an instructional designer in their eLearning Office, while also teaching for their Department of Communication. His research interests include Canadian political communication, government public relations, digital research methods and social media issues management. In 2021, his courses include Government Public Relations, Issues Management, Risk and Crisis Communication, and Canadian Energy Industry and Sustainability Public Relations.
