Whittnie Gaqui | Editor-in-Chief
Whittnie is a graduate of Mount Royal University’s Broadcasting program, and she is now enrolled as a third-year student majoring in public relations. In 2020, Whittnie co-founded Wavelength Creatives, a digital marketing company, where she develops communications strategies and digital content for clients globally.


Madisson Baldwin | Volunteer Coordinator and Web Development
Madisson is a third-year student at Mount Royal University who is studying communications with a focus on public relations and a minor in finance. She became interested in the public relations program after working in hospitality for several years where she developed her passion for networking and finding reasons to celebrate. Her long-term research interests are focused on Big Data and corporate digital responsibility.
Steve Henderson | Research Editor and Social Media
Steve is in his third-year of public relations at MRU. His interests include social media, disinformation and influence operations. Steve can be contacted on LinkedIn.


Cayley Roddie | Backgrounder Editor and Sponsorship
Cayley is a third-year communications student at Mount Royal University, majoring in public relations, minoring in marketing and holds a diploma in broadcasting. Cayley’s desire to strengthen communities through storytelling stems from her work in the non-profit sector at the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Canada and Goodwill Industries of Alberta. She is now learning about residential developments and community experience through her community ambassador position with Brookfield Residential.
Kenny Sage | Risk Communication Editor
Kenny is a third-year communications student at Mount Royal University, majoring in public relations and minoring in english. He chose public relations because it offers him a productive outlet to help channel his passions of writing and storytelling. To date, his work has focused on social media management in the nonprofit sector. He currently sits on the board of Camp Maskepetoon, where he helps to develop and implement communication strategies.


Lauren Melathopolous | Editor and Infographic Design
Lauren is a third-year public relations student at Mount Royal University, where she has also completed two years of broadcast media studies. She has experience in social media and digital marketing in the financial and non-profit sectors. Lauren’s eagerness in being part of the WCR team came from her love of writing and interest in politics.
Dr. Peter Ryan | Publisher
The Western Communication Report supervisor and publisher is Dr. Peter Ryan, APR, an associate professor in the Public Relations program at Mount Royal University. Any legal or policy concerns related to subject matter published in this online magazine can be reported directly to him. Peter has been with the Department of Public Relations at Mount Royal University since July 2016. Peter completed a Rogers PhD Fellowship in the joint Ryerson/York Universities’ Communication and Culture Programme. While completing his PhD, he taught for the Department of Politics and Public Administration at Ryerson for five years until 2010. He then moved to MacEwan University in Edmonton to work as an instructional designer in their eLearning Office, while also teaching for their Department of Communication. His research interests include Canadian political communication, government public relations, digital research methods and social media issues management. In Fall 2022, he will take on the role of Interim Chair for the Department of Public Relations, while continuing to teach PUBR 3860: Government Public Relations, and PUBR 3867: The Canadian Energy Industry and Sustainability Public Relations.
